OB Bedside Ultrasound Course

The class offers the required 8 hours of education and is specific to ultrasounds in the 2nd and 3rd trimester (not first trimester or gyn/infertility) and prepares the nurse for getting the 10 checkoffs required.  It also covers the recommended documentation and safety and legal aspects.  

 The class is a one day course, and 6-8 nurses may attend per course.  Successive days may be scheduled in order for more nurses to be trained, immediately or intermittently. The hospital provides the room for the education and the ultrasound used on the unit, and recruits 2-3 pregnant patients to ultrasound during the class, which gets the participants’ first few checkoffs completed.  Prior to the course presentation, a suggested policy will be provided if needed by the institution, and a written plan for checkoffs must be in place. Documentation forms for checkoffs are included. Cost is $4000 per class plus expenses (or $5000 without expenses), with a decrease in cost per day if multiple days are scheduled.  

This is currently the only in person class offered at your institution in the US.  The instructors are Dr. Roth, who has been trained in bedside ultrasound since 2007, and Brenda Buckley-Sittinger, a RDMS (who teaches the safety portion, recorded). Dr Roth is one of the two AWHONN representatives to AIUM, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
